100 years of Wimbledon History
Currently running until Sunday 10 April 2016
Don’t miss the Museum of Wimbledon’s Centenary exhibiton – 100 years of Wimbledon History. It recounts in mainly storyboard form the history of the Museum from it’s extraordinary setting up in the middle of the first World War by a group of local philanthropists to the present day. The tale told is a strange one: endless arguments about its location, further arguments about what should go in it, the amazing saga of what happened to the contents during the second World War, how – after it – the Museum rose again like a phoenix and has continued to develop since.
In addition to this story the Museum is displaying some objects from its reserves which are not usually on view.
Opening hours are the usual 2.30 pm – 5 pm on Saturdays and extended from 11 am – 5 pm on Sundays. If you are unable to visit during these times please ring 0208 296 9914 to make a special appointment, leaving your telephone number and preferred date/time. We can usually accommodate you.
