Curator, natural history

dave dawsonOur natural history curator, Dave Dawson, is a retired professional ecologist. Originally from New Zealand, he has lived locally since 1983. In this time, he worked on urban nature conservation for London government, when he initiated the protection of Sites of Importance for nature conservation. As a result, some 20% of London’s land area is now protected in local planning documents. Apart from curating the Museum’s small natural history collection, in retirement, he is active in documenting plants and birds for London, and for national, monitoring schemes. He also does his own extensive monitoring of birds in our area, documenting changes in the numbers and distribution of many species from the mid 1980s to the present day.
